On this day: The chaos Test ends

On this day in 2011, one of the most bizarre and chaotic Tests concluded, between South Africa and Australia in Cape Town.

Following Australia’s first innings total of 284, shored up by a magical 151 from Michael Clarke, the Test took a turn for the worse.

On day two, 23 wickets fell as both teams bowled each other out. Parts of all four innings took place on this day, and two batsmen were dismissed twice.

Australia bowled the South Africans out for just 96, but were then themselves bowled out for a pitiful 47.

On the final day, South Africa’s captain, Graeme Smith, and their current captain, Hashim Amla, both struck calm centuries after the chaotic storm the previous day to win the Test by eight wickets.
