ON THIS DAY: An Aussie record and some monkey business

On this day in 2008, Australia recorded a 16th straight Test win, which equalled their record.

However, their win at Sydney was somewhat overshadowed by a controversial incident involving two firebrand cricketers, Harbhajan Sing of India, and Andrew Symonds. 

Allegedly, Harbhajan had racially abused Symonds, by calling him a monkey. 

Harbhajan denied it, and said he had said ‘your mum’ instead. 

The Indian spinner was suspended for 3 games, before tour pullouts were threatened; at which point it was reduced to a 50% match fee fine.
