IPL Auction – Day 2 Preview: Unsold and Uncapped players

Day one of the IPL (Indian Premier League) auction has come to an end, which means that franchises will be gearing up to scrap over remaining unsold and uncapped players on day two.

The eight franchises have a remaining budget, and can bid once more for unsold players from day one, in addition to uncapped players.

A full list of uncapped players can be found here, although not all uncapped players will go under the hammer, because franchises largely chose who will be placed auctioned.

Here is an overview of the facts, the figures, and the potential swoops to look out for!

Purse remaining and player limit for franchises:

4

*Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Daredevils (DD), Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Mumbai Indians (MI), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

Players will be listed according to their role, in addition to their base price (₹ Indian rupee) that they will be placed into the auction.

Player Role: Batsmen

Top four batting targets:

1. Ross Taylor – New Zealand’s star batsman may not have a fantastic IPL record, but his 3816 T20 runs, including nearly a thousand T20 International runs, will be hugely valuable.

2. Cameron White – Australia’s T20 International opening batsman is fresh off the back of 75, 58*and 41 against England. In form, and able to bowl as well, he could be a fantastic steal

3. Alex Hales – The World’s number two ranked T20 International batsman is hugely under appreciated, perhaps due to his high base price. Despite being labelled unknown by Indian media sources, this batsman has had tremendous success in the past, and it would be criminal for him to go under the radar.

4. Ben Dunk – The Big Bash’s top scorer from 2013-14 with 395 is a strong talent, a brilliant fielder, punchy hitter, and can even wicket-keep. He certainly deserves some recognition for his progress in the last few months.

2. Tillakaratne Dilshan – The Sri Lankan allrounder is currently ranked eighth best batsman in the world, having heavily influenced the very essence of T20 batting with his innovative ‘dilscoop.’ Although pricey, his powerful hitting and useful spin, not to mention experience, may be invaluable.

3. Andre Russell – A charismatic West Indian allrounder, with a flowing bouncy action and possessing an almost scary amount of power with the bat, he could really give impetus to marginal teams.

Player role: Bowler

Top four bowling targets:

1. Shaun Tait – Known as the ‘wild thing’ for his furious pace, the world’s fasted bowler still has the capacity to frighten batsmen, although his accuracy sometimes suffers. He may be a a risk, but can be super effective too!

2. Kemar Roach – Another furious speedster, Kemar Roach is one of the most threatening and lightning quick bowlers on the planet. Although somewhat short of regular cricket, his reputation should earn him an IPL contract.

3. Ajantha Mendis – Mystery spin and India seem to go hand in hand, and for this Sri Lankan, the element of surprise seems to work the best. When he has been worked out, he becomes less effective, so he may be a good back up when the situation suits his style of bowling.

4. Cameron Gannon – Who? This young bowler took the most wickets in the BBL, so despite not being initially auctioned on the first day, he may certainly be in contention for day two.
